Kindergarten-ready skills handout now available in eight languages

In 2015, the Long Island Pre-K Initiative surveyed more than 100 kindergarten teachers to find out what skills they wanted children to have on the first day of school. Most included handwritten comments with their replies. The list of 20 skills that resulted includes the top 15 items from the survey plus five that teachers often mentioned.

The school districts: Amityville, Franklin Square, Harborfields, Levittown, Long Beach, Middle Country, North Merrick, Valley Stream #13, Uniondale and Wyandanch—plus input from an earlier survey in Westbury by The Early Years Institute.
