New principal at Jerusalem Avenue Elementary School

Dr. Matthew Jurgens has been appointed Principal of 澳门六合图库 Jerusalem Avenue Elementary School.

This fall, Dr. Matthew Jurgens took the helm of 澳门六合图库 Jerusalem Avenue Elementary School for students with learning, behavioral and developmental disabilities. The award-winning educator brings more than 15 years of teaching and administrative experience in the field of special education to the role of principal.

Dr. Jurgens began his educational career in the New York City school system, as a fourth-grade teacher at Ryder Elementary School in Brooklyn. From there, he moved to the Sachem Central School District, where he served dual roles as both a special education teacher and a principal’s aide for Tecumseh Elementary School in Farmingville.

During this time, Dr. Jurgens began taking on leadership roles, beginning with Crestwood Country Day School and Camp in Melville, where he served as an administrator and division head in charge of 45 staff members and more than a thousand campers. Following his success at Crestwood, he was appointed Coordinator of Special Education for the Commack UFSD, in which capacity he served for over five years.

From Commack, Dr. Jurgens went on to the Oyster Bay–East Norwich CSD, where he was appointed Assistant Director of Special Services, in which capacity he also served as chairperson and case manager for the district’s Committee on Preschool Special Education. With a proven track record as an exceptional educational leader, Dr. Jurgens was recruited by the Levittown UFSD to serve as their Assistant Director of Special Education.
