    THE FLU SHOT

    Guide for Parents to Keep Your Child Healthy and Safe

     

    GET THE FLU SHOT EVERY YEAR

    (recommended for all 6 months and older every year)

     

    FLU FACTS:

    The flu is a virus that causes an infection of the nose, throat and lungs.

    The flu is spread from person to person by coughing, sneezing or runny nose.

    The flu can be spread from one day before getting sick and up to 5 days after getting sick.

    The flu comes on suddenly.

    The flu signs and symptoms are: fever, fatigue, headache, stomach problems and diarrhea.

    YOUR CHILD MAY NOT COME TO SCHOOL IF HE OR SHE HAS THE FLU.

     

    FLU CARE:

    Rest and Lots of Fluids

    Fever-reducing medicine as ordered by your doctor

    Tissues to be used with coughing and sneezing

    IF NO tissues, cough or sneeze into the sleeve of your arm

     

    RETURN TO SCHOOL:

    Your child has no fever for 24 hours without fever-reducing prescribed by your doctor.

    Your child feels well for 24 hours
