The pandemic era's unfathomable number of deaths, pervasive sense of fear, economic instability, and forced physical distancing from loved ones, and communities have exacerbated the unprecedented stresses young people already faced.  As of June 2021, more than 140,000 children in the US had lost a parent or grandparent caregiver to COVID-19.

  • Childhood trauma isn’t something you just get over as you grow up. Pediatrician Nadine Burke Harris explains that the repeated stress of abuse, neglect and parents struggling with mental health or substance abuse issues has real, tangible effects on the development of the brain. Responding to Traumatic Events

  • When tragedies occur, we are often at a loss as to how to cope with such incomprehensible news, and also how to discuss such a tragedy with others, especially our precious children. Our focus also pivots to what steps we should be taking to keep all within our school communities safe and protected.
